The Havens Way
Founded in 1968, Havens Construction is committed to building and repairing water and wastewater infrastructure across the Midwest for municipalities, developers and general contractors. From the latest trenchless technology for aging infrastructure to open-cut construction of new sanitary sewer, storm sewer and water lines, the Havens crew is there to dig deep and get the job done the “Havens way.”
Leadership

As the third generation to lead Havens, Eric has both grown up in the business and worn many hats along the way, from laboring in the field to completing miscellaneous administrative tasks. He joined Havens full-time in 2002 as a project manager, estimating and managing both public and private projects, and was promoted to president in 2012, where he now manages the overall operations of the company, leads the executive team and oversees all long-term and strategic planning.
After earning his bachelor’s in business administration from the University of Missouri and his MBA from UMKC, Eric worked as an analyst in the banking industry with a Fortune 100 company, working his way to vice president. The role allowed him to network with various executive teams and learn how various companies planned and executed their growth strategies.
Today, he and his wife, Kristin, live in the Brookside neighborhood of Kansas City, Missouri, with their daughter. Eric enjoys anything that allows him to be on the water, such as boating, sailing and fishing, as well as cooking, entertaining and travelling.

From business development, client negotiations and contract management to overseeing company acquisitions and analyzing market strategy, Justin wears many hats as vice president at Havens. He previously spent 16 years in the heavy civil infrastructure industry with experience in estimating, project management and negotiations, overseeing projects ranging from $50,000 to $15 million. Those roles taught him how to better understand client expectations, provide value-engineering alternatives and ensure projects are delivered on time.
As someone who highly values teamwork and accountability, Justin has spent a lot of his career training and mentoring new employees and creating opportunities for individuals to succeed, all while encouraging hard work and a tight-knit, team-focused business approach.
A construction management graduate from the University of Central Missouri, Justin lives in Kansas City, Missouri, and enjoys working with his hands on DYI projects with his family, neighbors and friends.

From safety oversight to project management, Eric applies his nearly 15 years of construction experience in his role at Havens, which includes managing complex projects, process improvement and innovation. He also oversees software research and implementation to help increase the company’s productivity and field information.
Formerly the owner of his own construction company – as well as an estimator, field engineer, production analyst and director of construction – Eric has worked in many different industries throughout his career, including railroad, structural concrete, residential construction and remodeling, and civil construction. The experience has allowed him to learn many different companies’ operating procedures and best practices, which he applies in his role at Havens. He received his degree in construction management from the University of Central Missouri.
A lifelong resident of Kansas City’s Northland, he enjoys spending time with his wife and seven kids, as well as tackling projects around the house with his family.

With a passion for growing businesses through innovative methods that impact the bottom line, Tim works for Crown CFO and serves as the fractional CFO for Havens, helping with equipment cost estimating, accounting questions and the company’s annual audit.
Prior to joining Crown CFO, Tim was COO/CFO for RD Johnson Excavating Company, where he helped double the revenue and company size, assisting with sale preparation, transaction and post-acquisition integration to a national vertically integrated construction company.
With degrees in accounting and business administration from the University of Kansas, Tim and his wife live in Lawrence, Kansas, with their three kids, eight chickens and a hive full of bees. In addition, to attending his kids’ activities and sporting events, he loves chopping wood and plenty of travel — including big family trips to England to visit his brother.

As a field-based estimator, Blake is in charge of preparing proposals, reviewing how well a project aligns with the company’s goals for continued success, analyzing a project for possible hazards to job productivity, and contacting suppliers and subcontractors. He also oversees the interviewing and hiring of field employees to ensure each project is staffed appropriately.
Serving previously as both a laborer and then a foreman, he learned the day-to-day roles of the field positions, which made the transition to estimator and the focus on data entry much smoother. During his time in the Missouri National Guard and subsequent deployment to Afghanistan, he learned not only attention to detail but also the ability to be creative and adaptable when things don’t go according to plan.
Blake and his wife live in Marceline, Missouri, with their three children, yellow Lab and three French bulldogs. Most of his free time is spent either attending his kids’ sporting events, playing golf or travelling with his family.

Since she first joined Havens in 2003 as the front desk receptionist, Lisa quickly learned all the ins and outs of the office — and also realized she had found her home. From those early days of answering the phones, managing accounts payable and administering the 401(k), she quickly began taking on new tasks and was promoted to office manager in 2012 and now also handles payroll, tax filings, HR, business registrations and renewals, audits and insurance.
Before joining Havens, she spent eight years working in reconcilements and loans for a bank, ran a day care center out of her home for seven years, and served as a paraprofessional for her daughters’ school district. All these previous experiences taught Lisa understanding, patience and empathy when dealing with different personalities and situations.
While she appreciates the Havens crew (which she calls “one big family”) and the fun and enjoyable environment, she also likes to spend her free time with her husband and two grandchildren. Originally from a farm outside Mirabile, Missouri, Lisa now lives in Lathrop but escapes to their lake house as often as she can. These days she appreciates an ice-cold beer, some rock music, a boating or fishing excursion, and giving her two dogs, Memphis and Nala, lots of love.

After earning a degree in elementary education from Northwest Missouri State University and spending several years teaching, Megan traded in the classroom for the office, and now works with the accounts payable and accounts receivable side of the business. She also assists in document preparation for project bids.
Before joining Havens, Megan worked as an office manager for an electrical contractor for nearly 18 years and most recently worked as an administrator for an architectural/engineering firm, supporting the project managers and assisting with fee proposals.
As a lifelong Kansas City resident, Megan is married to her high school sweetheart and has two daughters and two cats. In addition to wine and whiskey tasting (not together, she points out), Megan is an avid traveler – with visits to 49 states and several countries – and loves reading and spending time with friends and family.

With more than 20 years of experience in the construction industry, Nathan has grown accustomed to wearing many different hats, and indeed calls his current role a true hybrid position between the field and the office.
He’s been with Havens for the past decade, starting as an operator, then serving as a foreman and now a project manager. Yet, his previous career stops in concrete construction and road maintenance have taught him a broad spectrum of skills — from digging with a shovel, running equipment, managing employees and everything in between.
A self-described “tinkerer,” Nathan can often be found working on projects in his shop and enjoys both metalworking and automotive maintenance. He and his wife live north of Kearney, Missouri – the same area in which he’s lived since grade school – with their two daughters and Australian Shepherd.
History
In 1968, Thomas A. Havens, an entrepreneur who also happened to have a background in construction, was asked if he wanted to bid on the installation of a new sewer system for the city of Braymer, Missouri. Tom jumped at the opportunity and never looked back.
Since then, the company Tom started has become an industry leader. Havens Construction is one of the Midwest’s top heavy utility contractors, installing water mains, sanitary sewers and storm sewers and performing a wide variety of infrastructure rehabilitation services using the latest technologies and innovations.
In 2002, the third generation of the Havens family joined the company, and today Havens Construction continues its tradition of quality, integrity and innovation.
