Neighborhood Sewer Rehabilitation – Kansas City, Missouri

Known as “Kansas City’s River,” the Blue River begins in Kansas and flows into Missouri —through Kansas City and then joining the Missouri River near Independence. Two-thirds of all water in the Kansas City metro area will eventually drain into the Blue River, making the proper maintenance of the sewer infrastructure near the river watershed even more crucial.

In 2019, the city of Kansas City, Missouri, hired Havens to perform an 18-month, extensive neighborhood sewer rehabilitation project in a large area just west of the Lower Blue River, a concrete channel that flows through both industrial areas and densely populated neighborhoods. The project included manhole lining, point repairs and excavated laterals, as well as nearly 16,000 linear feet of pipe bursting, a minimally invasive way to replace an old pipe by pulling a new PVC sanitary line through the existing space. The innovative process protects against corrosion and eliminates groundwater infiltration.

Project Details:

  • Total Main Rehab (LF): 47,650
  • Open-cut Point Repairs (EA): 65
  • Mainline Pipe Bursting (LF): 15,500
  • Excavated Laterals (EA): 170
  • T-Liners (EA): 40
  • Manhole Lining (VF): 360
